Song of the Week - The Closing of the Year

We guess everyone will see this when they return from their Christmas holiday's but, when you have a classic end-of-year song in your catalogue, you have to shout about it!

This week's Song of the Week is The Closing of the Year, by Perfect's Trevor Horn and Hans Zimmer. They wrote the piece together in the early 90s and it has since take on a life of its own as a non-religious but highly inspirational ode to Christmas and New Year.

Wendy & Lisa originally recorded song for the Robin Williams movie, Toys. From those sessions sprung the opening titles and single release (featuring a little-known but mesmerising guest vocal by Seal), an instrumental for the closing credits (featuring an additional section on pan pipes) and a smooth jazz jam.

The song has also received an operatic interpretation by Plácido Domingo, Sarah Brightman and a full orchestra live on stage and on record for A Gala Christmas In Vienna.

Head to the Perfect Songs catalogue to stream The Closing of the Year vocal and instrumental versions, and to our writers page for more on the Trevor Horn songbook.
