Song of the Weekend - Butterflies

This weekend, Song of the Week is coming to you live and direct from Cannes. The Perfect team is here at Midem for the duration of the conference, so if you haven't been in touch to book a meeting, please do...

And when the Midem madness gets too much, take four minutes to unwind with this classic from Perfect Songwriter Marsha Ambrosius, performed by Michael Jackson.

Marsha’s recent single, Far Away has been nominated for two 2012 Grammy Awards, for Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song. But, almost ten years ago to the day, Michael Jackson released Butterflies, which she co-wrote with producer Andre Harris.

Butterflies was released as the third single from Jackson's Invincible album and, as Harris said at the time, "(With this song), he's showing you, I'm still the Michael Jackson that did Billie Jean and Rock With You, because Butterflies really falls along those lines." For the New York Times, it's simply a "melting love ballad".

Head to the Perfect Songs catalogue to stream Butterflies, and to our writers pages for more on Marsha Ambrosius.
